Manu Caddie is a Gisborne District Councillor, qualified RMA Commissioner and self-employed business owner. Manu has Irish, Tongan, Spanish and Scottish whakapapa and is married to Tarsh Koia (Ngāti Porou).
Manu grew up in the Bay of Plenty on his parents small farm, he studied design in Wellington before moving to Gisborne in 1998.
Manu has only been involved with mining issues since 2010 when the Government announced a permit for deep sea drilling had been granted to Petrobras and in 2011 TAG Oil and Apache Corporation announced plans to drill for oil onshore in the Gisborne district.
Manu will be speaking about the some of the challenges for small communities and local authorities as the Government accelerates the pace of fossil fuel exploration and production around New Zealand.
